Every year on June 29th we celebrate our patron saints, Peter and Paul. According to tradition, the two apostles came to Rome and were both martyred in the same period under the order of Emperor Nero, although in different places. The Pope offices a solemn Mass in Saint Peter Basilica dedicated to the saints Peter and Paul in the morning. The recital of the Angelus is held in Saint Peter square at noon |
In Rome Peter and Paul are depicted everywhere, in many churches and church’s doors and their sculptures adorn the city.
Peter and Paul are one of the first Christian images to found in the catacombs.
