Since some years archeologists are at work on the slopes of the palatine hill near the arch of Constantine along the side of the sacred road.

The archaeological excavations are directed by the University La Sapienza Professor Clementina Panella.
Every coliseum’s visitors moving toward the arch of Titus and the roman forum can see the excavations and the many students involved in the diggings

Eight rooms of a beautiful residence of the Republican era have been found and its believed to be the birthplace of the first emperor Octavian Augustus: the home of his father Octavius where in 63 B.C. the future first emperor of Rome was born.  Ancient sources provide confirmation that Augustus would have lived there the first three years of his life before changing domicile.
"This year we have found at least eight rooms of a beautiful domus of the Republican era that overlooks the valley of the Roman Forum. The aristocratic quality of the house is  evidenced by an exceptional mosaic, with black and white tiles combined with a multi-colored triangles carpet  "… "We know that Augustus was born in ‘Curis Veteribus’ and the discovery of the birthplace of Augustus seems justified by the fact that this is the first domus next to the Curiae sanctuary”… “Sources say that three years after birth, the family moved to Carine , the area of Velia on the edge of the Esquiline” …”At the age of eighteen  Octavian bought a house near the Roman Forum , and finally at thirty-six the famous and best known residence on the Palatine . " Said Professor Panella.
